TECHNOLOGY AT THE ACADEMY
SMART Boards
SMART
Board interactive whiteboards combine the power of a computer,
projector and whiteboard. The Academy has 10 Smart Boards allowing teachers
to download and upload information directly from computers onto the interactive
whiteboard. They simply touch the whiteboard to highlight key points,
access applications and Web sites, or write notes in electronic ink. At
the end of a lesson, the work can be saved, emailed to student accounts
or posted to a website.
Laptop Program
Wireless IBM ThinkPad laptop computers and LaserJet printers are available for use in any classroom
in Alumni and Kearns Halls. Faculty and students simply remove laptops from charging cabinets located on each floor and classrooms become fully functional labs in a matter of
minutes.
The Internet
A LAN provides direct Internet access via a T1 line. Students in grades
4-12 and faculty have a personal user account, associated storage folder
and an e-mail account.
Computer Labs
The greatest revamping on campus this year
came to the Francis H. Powers Science & Technology Center, the school's
high-tech computer and science facility. The Kearns Hall computer lab
for grades 7 -12 and the sister lab in Alumni Hall for grades Pre-K -
6 now house state-of-the-art IBM computers, each with flat screen monitors
and CD R/W-DVD ROM drives, upgraded laser printers and user friendly Smart
Boards. Each lab now sports new furniture and a more open, spacious layout.
Computer Labs are available for student use when not in
use by computer science classes. Networked computers are also available
in the Stanley Library.
All computer users are bound to abide by the Academy’s
Acceptable Use Policy Statement.
