LIFE: MIDDLE SCHOOL AWARDS
Dorothy Kimmerer Vocal Music Award: Established
in 1986 in honor of Dorothy Kimmerer. Awarded to a student in Grade 4
and Grade 6, who has made an outstanding contribution to vocal music.
Mathematics: Awarded to students who have excelled in
the New York Mathematical League, Continental Math League, and/or International
Math Olympiad competitions.
Music Award: Given to an outstanding member of the Middle
School Grades 5 and 6 Chorus.
Service Awards: Given to Grades 5 and 6 students who
demonstrate outstanding service to school and community.
Top Athlete Award: awarded to a girl and a boy in Grade 6 for
combined achievement and sportsmanship in physical education.
Boroughwide Science Fair Awards: Awarded to Grades 5
and 6 students who have earned first, second or third place in Borough
wide science fair competition.
Top Scholar: Given to the Grade 8 student who has earned
the highest academic average for the year.
Alumni Merit Awards: Given annually by the Alumni Association
to two, Grade 8 students in recognition of outstanding overall contributions
to the life of the Academy, and demonstration of high character and seriousness
of purpose.
The Jack J. Boies Award: Established by the Board of
Trustees in memory of Dr. Jack J. Boies, former Trustee and parent of
four Academy graduates; presented to that Grade 8 student whose interest,
participation, and commitment have contributed most significantly to the
dramatics program at Staten Island Academy.
Borough President's Annual Achievement Award: Awarded
to a student from each of Staten Island's intermediate schools for service
to school and community.
Stephen J. and Jessica R. Botsford Grant: Given annually to that
Grade 8 student who is qualified, most deserving, and is in positive need
of financial assistance. The grant is applied toward tuition expenses.
Dr. Reuben Greenberg and Lillian M. Greenberg Memorial Scholarship:
granted annually to a worthy Grade 8 student.
Dr. Albert L. Patrick Award: Established by the Staten
Island Academy Board of Trustees, this award recognizes exceptional dedication
and interest in science exhibited by academic achievement and extracurricular
activities.
John W. Peel '38 Writing Award: Given annually to a Grade
8 student for quality of written expression.
Presidential Education Award: Given to Grade 8 students
who have maintained a GPA of 10.0 composed of all the grades earned in
the Middle School. Student must also have achieved a score of 85% percentile
or better in both the verbal or math scores taken from the current and
preceding academic year.
Staten Island Reading Association Award: Presented by the Staten
Island Reading Association to commend a Grade 8 student who has shown
exemplary improvement in reading throughout the course of the year.
Lynne Robbins Steinman Award: Given annually to Grade
8 students who demonstrate outstanding dedication to the study and appreciation
of music and art.
Top Athlete Award: Awarded to a girl and a boy in Grade
8 for combined achievement and sportsmanship in physical education.
