Read an upper school reporter's review of an annual Academy event:

Academy Day at SIA
A Day of Supernatural Fun

Academy Day has come and gone once more, but that special day in autumn each year will never be forgotten. It is the one afternoon that immerses teenagers and adults in the splendor or reminder of youthful existence. Undeniably, Academy Day unites older and younger generations under a common peaceful afternoon of leisure. It is a day chock full of good ol’ family fun. But perhaps most importantly, it is a day packed with tradition. Each year, children, teenagers, and adults alike can anticipate the return of their favorite features of Academy Day. For some it may be the return of the soccer games and the senior food stand, while for others, it may be the chance to win a goldfish or a raffle.

This year’s “Superheroes at SIA” theme was displayed all over campus, with guest appearances by Spiderman, the Hulk, and Superman. Our own mascot, lovingly dubbed “Mr. Stripey,” also sported a cape, as he made appearances around campus and befriended the Academy Day attendees. In addition to the fresh new theme, the students found this year’s raffle prizes to be extremely enticing. Senior Nikhil D. exclaimed, “I want the Louis Vuitton basket!” Children ran from game to game, trying to win enough bracelets for those prizes they have had their eyes on.

Despite this year’s disagreeable weather, the entire Academy community showed up, and had a great time. The vitality of the students, faculty, and parents could be seen everywhere, from the passionate support for our soccer players, to the long hours that some people put into volunteering for our booths. Although the outcome of the student vs. faculty/alumni touch football game was not so pleasant for the students, people had a great time overall. Because of the great turnout and support from the parents and students, Academy Day was a great success. I am sure next year’s will be even better.
