STUDENT LIFE: PERFORMING ARTS
“All the world’s a stage.” William Shakespeare The Academy has a rich tradition of performing arts reaching back to the school’s early days. The school’s archives contain photos from the early 1900’s of Academy students performing in plays and at music recitals. That long tradition of the arts continues at the Academy today. Students explore creative expression in the performing arts through comprehensive classroom curriculum, and in student clubs in music and theater. The Performing Arts program fosters each individual student's strengths in the arts. Students participate in thrilling theater productions as an actor or as back stage crew. Academy performing arts students create sets, costumes, and promotional posters; and they write, direct, act, sing, and dance. Music offerings include choral groups, orchestras and private music instruction. Haugen Hall is the center of Academy arts. The building houses art, orchestra and chorale rooms, and a renovated theater/auditorium equipped with a state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems. All school concerts, plays, and musicals take place in Haugen Hall. |
