Extracurricular Programsline

Theatre
Students at the Academy love their theatre program. It lets them sing, dance, act, construct sets, design programs, and band together to get the show on its feet. In addition to the required class projects in theatre in the earlier years, Middle School and Upper School students may elect to participate in the Grade 7 and 8 spring musical, the Upper School fall play, and the Upper School spring musical. Productions run the gamut from the Academy’s ground-breaking production of The Laramie Project to the classical comedy, The Birds. Recent musical productions include Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, Into the Woods, Oklahoma, On the Town, Damn Yankees, Hello, Dolly!, Fiddler on the Roof, Guys and Dolls, and Anything Goes. In all theatrical productions, no student is turned away. Students may participate onstage or backstage, and almost half of the student body is somehow involved in the Upper School Musical.

Dance
The Academy dance program lets students bust a move, and the Academy is proud to be home to one of the most exciting dance programs on Staten Island. Outside of curricular offerings in dance, students may participate in the Upper School Dance Company, the Health and Fitness Club, or the Academy Step Team. The Academy also offers membership in the SIA Dance Honor Society chapter of Nu Delta Alpha, which is awarded to students of dance who have fulfilled the requirements of performance, production participation, dance classes, community service in dance, and maintain a "B" or higher average throughout the school year.

Music
The halls of Staten Island Academy are never silent. Students are actively engaged in learning about, reading, listening to, and creating music. They do it within the curriculum and during the school day in choral and instrumental ensembles from Grades 2-12. Upper School students, in addition to a wide variety of elective courses in music, may participate in one of four music ensembles. Students may also take private music and instrumental lessons through the after-school Adventures Program (Pre-K through Grade 8) or through the Department of the Arts team and affiliated music tutors (Grades 9-12).
